The island state of Malta has a distinctive and unique fortress heritage that has been shaped over many eras.
With the Department of Tourism Management of the Faculty of Economics, Management and Accountancy of the University of Malta, FORTE CULTURA now has another strong partner with essential inputs for the development and establishment of sustainable fortress tourism. The university was founded in 1769 by a Grand Master of the Order of Malta and confirmed by papal letter. It is the only state university in Malta and was the oldest university in the Commonwealth outside the UK (Malta was a British Crown Colony from 1814-1964).
With the signing of the FORTE CULTURA membership application in February 2025, the Department of Tourism Management is interested in deepening cooperation both at university level and in student exchange. Joint activities are intended to strengthen Malta's fortress heritage and create an international network. The extensive experience in dealing with Malta's fortress heritage is also an important knowledge base for other FORTE CULTURA fortresses.
