The impressive Suomenlinna Fortress hosted this year's board meeting of EFFORTS (European Federation of Fortfied Sites).

In addition to a hybrid meeting to coordinate current and future activities of the network, the programme included tours and workshops on the development of the UNESCO World Heritage Site Suomenlinna Fortress. The international panel of experts discussed topics such as restoration, sustainable tourism, dissonant heritage, climate change and resilience as well as monument management. European best practices were presented by the Fortress of Culture Šibenik (HR), the Zuiderwaterlinie (NL), ICOMOS Belgium and FORTE CULTURA.

The FORTE CULTURA network is a member of EFFORTS and Vice President Dirk Röder is also a board member of EFFORTS to ensure close co-operation between the two European fortress networks.

The EFFORTS Annual Congress 2024 will take place from 24-25 October 2024 in Šibenik (HR).
