The Bavarian state fortress of Ingolstadt was expanded over five historical periods into the large fortress system seen today. On both sides of the Danube, there are partially very well-preserved fortifications spanning five centuries, representing the Renaissance fortress, the post-Thirty Years’ War expansion, the Neoclassical fortress (reconstruction after demolition by Napoleon), as well as an outwork belt and an outer fort belt.
With its accession, Ingolstadt aims, among other goals, for greater international visibility in cultural tourism.
Furthermore, fortress collaborations are to be developed or expanded within Bavaria, in the German-Austrian border region, and along the Danube.
Additionally, Maximilian Schuster, Chairman of the Förderverein Bayerische Landesfestung Ingolstadt e.V., has become a member. We look forward to the cooperation. (Photo: Gert Schmidbauer)
