Kostrzyn nad Odra (PL): cross-border project on the fortified heritage of the Oder-Warta Region

FORTE CULTURA – Discover the cultural heritage of fortress monuments in the Euroregion PRO EUROPA VIADRINA (DE-PL)” – a joint project of City of Kostrzyn nad Odrą, FORTE CULTURA e.V. and Heimatverein Gusow-Platkow e.V., funded by Euroregion Pro Europa Viadrina (Small Project Fund) as part of the INTERREG VI A Brandenburg-Poland 2021-2027 cooperation programme with funds from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).

The aim of the small-scale project was to finance the international fortress conference marking the 10th anniversary of FORTE CULTURA in November 2024 in Kostrzyn nad Odra, while at the same time raising awareness of the fortified heritage of the Euroregion PRO EUROPA VIADRINA and promoting international networking.

Project budget: 12.000 € (Subsidy amount: 9.600 €)

Project goals:

  1. the cross-border networking of tourism organisations and tourism providers
  2. cross-border marketing and mediation of cultural and tourist offers

Work package 1: Info brochure on the fortress heritage of the Oder-Warthe region

Work package 2: International congress with excursions on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the foundation of the European Cultural Route of Fortified Monuments -FORTE CULTURA- in Kostrzyn nad Odrą 2014

Project results:

On the occasion of the 10th anniversary of FORTE CULTURA, 60 members and guests from 9 countries came together at the founding location Kostrzyn nad Odrą (PL) to celebrate the anniversary of the Eruopean Cultural Route of the Cultural Heritage of Fortified Monuments. These included the FORTE CULTURA stations Ingolstadt, Königstein (Saxony), Terezín, Josefov, Prague, Gizycko, Fort Gorgast and Kulturbunker Strausberg.

The project also included the development and printing of a FORTE CULTURA information brochure on the fortified cultural heritage of the Oder-Warta Region: e.g. the Fortress System Kostrzyn nad Odra (former Küstrin) including Fort Gorgast, the former Renaissance fortress of Drezdenko, the fortified castles of St. John in Lagow and Friedland, the Oder-Warthe-Bogen defence line, Cold War bunkers in Strausberg, Falkenhagen, Bad Saarow and Kunersdorf.
